Embarking on a safari to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is an extraordinary adventure that promises to leave you in awe of the natural world. This private-owned conservation area, located in the heart of Tsavo, Kenya's largest national park and offers a unique opportunity to witness a diverse array of wildlife including the Big Five in their natural habitat. The wildlife sanctuary was founded by Hilton International in 1972 and covers an area of approx. 110 square kilometers.

Salt Lick Safari Lodge is a hideaway located in the middle of the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary overlooking a waterhole and the huge Tsavo plains. The lodge is a favorite among luxury travelers due to its unique architecture. During your stay don't miss to visit the underground tunnel, where you can view wildlife up close and personal.

Lake Jipe is located at Tsavo West National Park and borders Tanzania. The Lumi River, which flows down from Mount Kilimanjaro, is the primary source of water for the lake. Lake Jipe is notable for its biodiversity and the water birds that frequent its shores. Herds of game frequent the area around the lake and hippos and Nile crocodiles are plentiful.

Tour Plan

Day 1 - Mombasa - Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary - Salt Lick Safari Lodge

The journey begins with an early morning hotel pick-up, setting the tone for an exciting day ahead. Along the way, you will have the chance to observe the stunning landscapes and breathtaking scenery of the region, creating a sense of wonder and excitement.

Once you arrive at the sanctuary, our knowledgeable guides will be on the lookout for the Big Five. From the comfort of your safari vehicle, you will have the opportunity to encounter elephants, zebras, giraffes, lions, hartebeest and other incredible wildlife species.

After a few hours of exploration, we check in at our pre-booked lodge and enjoy a delicious lunch. You will have time to relax at the lodge before we head back into the wilderness in the afternoon in search for more wildlife. We return to the Salt Lick Safari Lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 2 - Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary - Lake Jipe

We start the day early and return to the bush before breakfast. The early hours of the day allow you to witness the vibrant awakening of the animal kingdom, as predators begin their hunt and herbivores graze peacefully in the grasslands. Soak in the sights, sounds, and scents of the African wilderness as you traverse through the sanctuary, capturing memories that will last a lifetime.

We return to the lodge for breakfast and check out. Our game drive continues as we exit the park and drive toward Lake Jipe.

We reach our next destination just in time for lunch at our pre-booked accommodation. We retreat to a picturesque spot for a well-deserved break, where you can indulge in a delicious meal. In the afternoon we embark on a boat ride across the lake and watch hippos and crocodiles up close. Our adventure concludes with a short game drive in the evening before we return to our lodge or camp for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 3 - Lake Jipe - Mombasa

As the sun begins to rise, we get ready for breakfast and check out. We embark on a short game drive before we leave Lake Jipe. As we drive back to Mombasa you can reflect upon the incredible moments you have experienced during this safari. We stop on the way for lunch where you can rest and recharge. We reach your hotel in Mombasa in the afternoon.

Questions & Answers

What do I need to bring?

Make sure you have sufficient sunscreen and insect repellent. Other essential travel items shall include a sunhat, sunglasses, binoculars, a camera, spare batteries, and perhaps a power bank. Where do we meet our guide?

Our friendly guides will pick you up from your local hotel in Mombasa or Nairobi. Alternatively, we can also meet you at the airport, if you wish to start your tour on the day of your arrival in Kenya. Please fill in your details on the checkout page, if known.
